Trans Resource Database

You’re a small nonprofit that maintains a list of Transgender friendly healthcare providers in Western Pennsylvania. Many Trans people in the Pittsburgh region are unaware of this resource.

You need a better way to get the word out.

How might we increase accessibility to Transgender friendly resources in the Western Pennsylvania region?

Problems to Solve

  1. Lack of awareness: Currently maintained as a Google sheet by the Tri-State Gender Collective, many Trans people in the Pittsburgh region are not aware of this resource. Due to this lack of awareness, Trans people in our community struggle to find Trans competent resources resulting in anxiety and dysphoria.

  2. No formal process for expanding the database: With little procedure to vet providers and add them to this list, trans-informed providers can’t advertise themselves.

  3. Insufficient provider education: There’s an opportunity for health providers to educate themselves on becoming trans-informed. This website could go beyond the database to provide providers with educational materials.

  4. No community confidence: Trans people are hesitant to trust health providers. Without a means to provide reviews and transparency around the vetting process, trans people are unlikely to adopt or utilize this database.

Design Process

The Design Process

  1. Create a research plan with the guiding question: “How might we bridge the gap between providers and trans people seeking inclusive care?”

  2. Conduct one-on-one provider interviews, close collaborative design sessions with the community, and an anonymous survey.

  3. Summarize research to present to internal stakeholders.

  4. Create and review low-fidelity to high-fidelity designs.
